Assessment Plan
In creating this assessment plan, I intend to teach third and fourth grade students how to recognize and count coins, add coins, and determine coin combinations. Upon completion of lesson students should be able to identify with various coins of money and how to use them in the real world.
Learning Outcome
ü During this learning outcome students are taught the various forms of coin money and each ones worth, which is verbally introduced to them accompanied by a poster for a visual of the coins. Then, students are asked to verbally tell me of each coin and its worth.
ü During this portion of the assessment, students will demonstrate how much knowledge they have retained. I will verbally describe a coin and give students the opportunity to tell me which coin I described. I would also give students a worksheet with various coins and their worth and ask the student to draw a line from the coin to its correct value.
ü During this assignment, students are asked to pair-up into groups of three and are given coins (real or artificial), products to be purchased, and a cash register. The students are then asked to demonstrate knowledge obtained by playing store. One student is to purchase items with coins and another is to make sure the right money is put in and taken out of the register. The third student is there to write down how many right and wrong situations occurred.
ü Students are asked to make a dollar using four variations of coin operation. Then, students are to complete another worksheet deciphering coin combinations and calculating each ones worth.
ü Students are given a written assignment in which I will judge the knowledge they have obtained of money concepts. This is also a way in which I can determine if the teaching method is working.
ü After completion of this assessment twice a week for 45 minute increments. I would be able to determine if this method was successful or if it could use some revising. I would also integrate the assessment (along with others) to help produce an overall math grade for this level.
